Effective teaching and learning means that teachers present information in an effective manner and students are able to understand that information quickly and easily. When teachers are able to teach in a way that is unencumbered and exciting, students are able to become more engaged in their learning and pick up on the information without becoming confused or overwhelmed. There are several strategies to effective teaching and learning.
1. Present Information in Order
o Present information in order. Begin with the basic facts that students must know, and then build on those facts with details. For instance, begin with the ABCs, and then start putting letters together to form words. After that, put words together to form sentences. Presenting information for all subjects in a logical manner is the most effective way to teach anything that requires more than one step. Students can master each step before moving on to a more difficult one.
Keep Information Seperate Yet Inclusive
o Walk a fine line between keeping information separate yet inclusive. Create an overall theme for your classroom or your unit, and have all of the things you teach included in that theme. However, within your theme, separate the various tasks that your students are doing. Teach reading at one time and math at another. Although students will be learning more than one thing at once, an organized schedule that keeps each subject in its place is the most conducive to learning because students can concentrate on one subject at a time, without worrying about other subjects getting in the way.
Keep Open Communication
o Create open communication in your classroom in order to preserve effective communication. Students should feel free to ask questions and discuss important matters, and teachers should be able to communicate their ideas with all students. Parents should also feel free to ask you questions and to provide their input on certain situations like discipline and special needs. Open communication will remove any barriers that students might find to effective teaching and learning.
